🏰 This week, we have been raising money for The Royal Marsden by taking part in a sponsored bounce. The charity is close to our hearts here at CC and it was great to see our House Leaders organise such a successful charity day with Miss Perry’s support. Well done to all the children for their participation in the sponsored bounce. What a fantastic event to raise money for The Royal Marsden! Thank you for all your sponsorship so far - you can still donate to this fantastic cause until the 24th via the link in our bio ⭐️

4️⃣ Year 4 enjoyed using Gattegno charts to explore how multiplying by 10, then 10 again is the same as multiplying by 100! They rolled a dice and practised multiplying a single digit number using this generalisation. We then did the inverse for division and learnt that dividing by 10, then 10 again is the same as the dividing by 100!

3️⃣ This week, Year 3 have been exploring the question, ‘What is a bridge?’ during their D.T. lessons. We worked as a team to use paper to build a bridge that would cross an expanse and investigated how the shape and structure of our materials can strengthen a bridge so it can carry a given load. We had great fun testing this out using the books in our classrooms!

2️⃣ Despite the weather, Year 2 had an incredible time at Brooklands last week! We enjoyed spotting the differences between planes from the past and present such as the materials they were made from and the level of comfort. Inside the aircraft factory, we looked at some of the equipment used to make aircraft. We enjoyed a workshop where we learnt about drag and made a glider from loops of paper. We were even lucky enough to explore the inside of a cargo plane, the luxury of the plane belonging to The Sultan of Oman and finally, a Concorde! We learnt the top speed of Concorde and counted its many wheels. Finally, some of us explored the bus museum and took it turns to be the driver.

2️⃣ Year 2 have been investigating what makes the best papier-mâché in preparation to build a 3D model of a development in aviation. We tried different paper types such as newspaper, tissue and normal paper. We also tested what size pieces worked the best to achieve a smooth finish. We found that newspaper worked really well, much better than tissue which disintegrated as soon as it got wet! We also found that smoother pieces lay flat on the balloon mould. This has helped us make design decisions before we make next week.

4️⃣ Year 4 enjoyed developing their Hockey skills in PE. This week, we practised our push pass. We used two cones to create a gate and had to control the ball to pass it to our partner. When we felt confident, we made the gate smaller to see if we could still pass just as successfully!

💻🍃 Our pupil leaders enjoyed a live lesson hosted by @adobeforedu yesterday. The Digital Leaders used their technology skills to develop a poster linking for Energy Saving Week. This gave the Eco Reps a chance to think about some ideas ahead of sharing them at a meeting next week.
